Free and Donation Software

I answered a query today from a person seeking inexpensive creative software without going over to the darkside and piracy. In short Gimp is a good open source alternative to Photoshop and costs nothing but a good karma donation. Blender is a fantastic 3D application featuring some of the most recent developments in 3D technology. Scribus is a great Quark alternative and is available for free. I will add a lot more to this section soon as I know many have an interest in this. For now I've posted some useful links and screen shots.

Later that day we dropped by Dr. Bourkes for some badly needed fishing supplies.

Met Suukie on the street in Kilkee last weekend. Great Marilyn Manson eye thing going on.

Sophie Basshunter

My kids are with me today and insisting that we upload Sophie's Basshunter video to Youtube, something I'm not very comfortable with. So here's the compromise, posting it on my blog.

Motion blur and Gaussian Blur to fake depth of field are probably the worst sins in Photoshop and you see it everywhere. Photographic depth of field and boketh have become a bit of an obsession with me and finding tools and ways to replicate them in 3D. I've quite a few experimental images which I'll post here soon but on a slightly related subject I found this shot, one of a series I did with long exposures and the kids and camera moving in a swimming pool. I really like the look of them and the intense colours of swimming paraphernalia and the pool water works well.

The guys in the bear shot wanted a regular shot as proof that they were in fact the bears.
Starting to find my way around Blogger. Just noticed I can upload slightly larger pictures.
Check out my good mate Cormac's new website.
Seriously high energy images.

Just finished a major overhaul of my website and I've decided to start this blog as a creative outlet, a visual scrapbook of the things that catch my eye and a place to post the shots not really appropriate for my website. Thanks for dropping by and hopefully you'll enjoy your visit
